Men’s Health Month June is men’s health month! The goal of men’s health month is to increase awareness of preventable health problems and encourage early detection and treatment of diseases for men. Men are at greater risk for death in all age groups. Yet men do not see physicians for a yearly exam nearly as much as women do. In addition, men are less likely to be insured than women. Wear Blue for June is a men’s health movement to bring awareness to raise awareness and money for education about men’s health such as prostate cancer education, testicular cancer education, and getting regular checkups. Men can improve their health by eating healthy, such as and taking vitamins and minerals to supplement your diet. Tomatoes contain an antioxidant called lycopene, which may help prevent prostate cancer and reduce tumor growth among men with prostate cancer. Broccoli contains complex compounds that may protect from cancer. Also, try eating fish that is rich in omega-3’s and omega-6’s, which have been linked to reduced mortality rate for prostate cancer. In addition, get active and make prevention a priority. Be cognizant of getting regular screenings including blood pressure, cholesterol, glucose, and prostate health.
